Home Builders Institute (HBI)
WANTO 2ndYear Grant—Awarded September 1995
The Home Builders Institute (HBI) in collaboration with Wider Opportunities for Women conducted a program of technical assistance focused on employers in the residential and light commercial construction industry because of its widespread opportunities for women in nontraditional occupations. HBI and WOW:
- Conducted technical assistance needs analyses;
- Provided limited technical assistance through seminars linked to regional and national industry conventions and;
- Customized specific on-site interventions to employers and labor organizations requesting technical assistance;
- Modified existing recruitment, training and employment-focused materials to address the needs of the residential and light commercial construction industry's small business community; and
- Produced a "How-To-It" manual for the residential and light commercial construction industry.
Outcomes
The Home Builders Institute provided direct technical assistance to 123 employers and 33 home builders associations and 235 telephone contacts as a result of a national and regional conventions where HBI also spoke with 4500 employers at the WANTO Booth, Opening New Doors.
