WANTO 2nd Year Grant—Awarded September 1995

The International Masonry Institute (IMI) conducted pilot WANTO pre-job apprenticeship training programs in four key regions—New England, Chicago, Seattle, and New Jersey—and conducted union and contractor consultations or technical assistance to prepare those requesting assistance to increase the participation of women in the trowel trades on their specific work sites.

Over the 1996-1997 grant period, the number and proportion of women in the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers' (BAC) pre-job apprenticeship programs increased from 14 to 47 women or six percent of total enrollment, nationally, and nine percent in the pilot areas.

Outcomes

Technical Assistance
IMI provided technical assistance to approximately 200 contractors and 100 union officials in the pilot areas, and another 200 contractors and 2,000 union officials nationwide, including both on-worksites and off-worksites in workshops and conferences.
