Mi Casa Resource Center has received two WANTO grants. Please click the grant year below to learn more about each project and its outcomes and products. WANTO 4th Year Grant—Awarded September 1997 WANTO 6th Year Grant—Awarded September 1999 WANTO 4th Year Grant—Awarded September 1997 Mi Casa Resource Center has provided on- and off-site technical assistance to employers, labor unions and apprenticeship programs to strengthen system linkages. The project focused in particular on linking its highway construction and maintenance pre-apprenticeship program with sponsored apprenticeship training, involving more than 60 employers and apprenticeship programs, while moving many more than 100 women into apprenticeship and nontraditional employment.
The grant has been renewed for October 1999. WANTO 6th Year Grant—Awarded September 1999 Mi Casa Resource Center will continue its earlier WANTO grant by providing technical assistance to 15 employers, labor unions and apprenticeship programs to increase employment opportunities for women in apprenticeship and other nontraditional occupations. In addition, Mi Casa will develop 5-10 new linkages with employer partners in the construction industry. As a result of the technical assistance, 40 women will receive training -- 15 will be placed in apprenticeship and 15 in construction jobs. Mi Casa was developed by a group of women from Denver's Latino community in 1976. Their mission was to provide quality employment and education programs that promote self-sufficiency for primarily low-income, Latina women and youth. Since then, Mi Casa has grown into a comprehensive agency with 30 adult staff, 20 youth staff, and a budget of over $1.9 million. Mi Casa is a member of WOW's National Workforce Network. Scheduled completion date: November 2000. Project Contact Alice Chavez Daly, Avenidas Project Director Phone (303) 455-5820 |
